Voice to Print Captioning

March 2009:  Voice to Print Captioning is selected "Business of the Year" at Hammond, Indiana's Disability Awareness Month banquet.

August 2009:  Kathy Cortopassi provides CART and captioning services for the National Court Reporters Association Annual Convention.

August 2009:  Voice to Print Captioning provides CART services for a student with hearing loss who is taking FRENCH classes in school!

We began serving people with hearing loss over 15 years ago.  Our President, Kathy Cortopassi, is nationally certified by the National Court Reporters Association.   Before entering the Captioning and CART profession, Kathy owned a court reporting agency employing up to nine Independent Contractors covering legal cases in Illinois and Indiana.

When Kathy's daughter was found to have severe hearing loss due to blocked eardrums and needed surgery, Kathy immediately began studying how she could use her skills as a Realtime Court Reporter to help her daughter, if she needed it, in school.  But the surgery was successful and her daughter was returned to the "hearing world" with minimal long-term hearing loss.  Kathy decided, however, that this was God's hand in her life and decided to devote the rest of her life to helping other people with hearing loss.

Kathy was trained by one of the first -- and best -- CART providers and captioners in the Industry.  She provided services herself as an Independent Contractor before starting Voice to Print Captioning.

We are now proudly serving many repeat customers. Our customers look to us for great quality and incredible service.

We are a full-service firm, meaning whatever accommodation you need, be it an FM system, ALDs (Assisted Listening Devices), CART (Communication Access Realtime Transcription), captioning, ASL (American Sign Language) Certified Interpreters, or alternative speech summation technology, WE CAN MEET YOUR NEEDS.  We are a one-stop-shop when it comes to translating the spoken word in the format a person with hearing loss needs.

Kathy is co-founder of the Northwest Indiana Support Group for Hoosiers with Hearing Loss, a joint group of local ALDA (Association of Late-Deafened Adults) and HLAA (Hearing Loss Association of America) chapters.  The group meets every other month at the Dyer-Schererville Library in Schererville, Indiana.  ANYONE with hearing loss is welcome, be they Deaf, HOH (Hard-of-Hearing) or LD (Late-Deafened).  ASL Certified Interpreters and CART are provided at our meetings for our members and visitors.  Individuals interested in speaking to the group are encouraged to contact us.

Kathy was also one of three Co-Chairs of the First Annual Chicago/NWI Walk 4 Hearing which took place in Chicago's Lincoln Park on Saturday, October 6, 2007.  This first-time Walk was the Second Highest in donations raised!!

Kathy differentiates herself by her vast knowledge of Deaf Culture and conversational knowledge of ASL.  She is one of the most accurate writers in the U.S.; and for this reason, she is asked to do difficult work that most others turn down:  Medical and scienfic, Conventions, Foreign Language classes.

Kathy is also an author.  She writes a regular column in the Indiana Shorthand Reporters' Association newsletter, "In the Trenches", and has had many articles published in The Journal, the monthly magazine published by the National Court Reporters Association.

But Kathy's favorite role is that of wife and mother.  She and her husband have (nearly) raised five children to successful adulthood...no small feat while trying to run a business!!!  Now that the kids are almost all "out of the nest", Kathy is able to give back to her profession - she's currently a member of a Committee for NCRA.
